OUR STORY

Where did Chapman Worth come from?

We're not your average accountants. We don't spend our time and energy looking back in history, but instead focus on what's ahead - the future! That said though we've had some great adventures along the way which is why this short article will give you a brief overview about who we are today at Chapman Worth Chartered Accountants.


When Matthew Chapman and Anna Chellingsworth (now Anna Chapman) left their respective roles with the same international audit firm in 2003, they both shared the same goal, to concentrate on owner managed businesses. Starting from their small office in Stanford in the Vale they quickly gained some fantastic clients and an excellent reputation. In 2004 Chapman Worth moved to larger premises in Newbury Street, Wantage which became home for the next 14 years.


Shirley Barry, who still works for Chapman Worth today, became the first employee in 2005. Then in 2007 Chapman Worth took on the client base of Goddard & Broadley. That's when things really picked up! We went from having a headcount of 4 to 25 overnight!


The growth of our business has been phenomenal. Chapman Worth acquired The Southill Partnership in Charlbury and Apple Tree in Witney. The clients of these two practices were relocated to a new office which at Witney Lakes resort in Witney in 2015.


After years of traveling to and from our Wantage office, it was time for a change. We relocated to East Hendred in 2018 so that clients could enjoy easy parking as well beautiful surroundings during their visit with us!


The company's growth continued with both offices gaining new clients, but then something happened that turned everything upside down. Just when they thought it couldn't get any better... Covid came along!


In the time of crisis, we were ready. Our cloud-based software made the switch to working from home easy and our team members adapted well to meetings with Zoom or Teams. When the lease on our Witney office expired there seemed little point in renewing it.


Then, as the world went back to 'normal', we took the opportunity to bring everyone together in a new bigger East Hendred office. Together, the team is stronger than ever! For our clients, there is nothing better than being surrounded by experts who share your interests and goals. By combining the use of technology with the flexibility to travel to see clients (when it's safe or more practical to do so), Chapman Worth have become a truly mobile team, perfectly capable of servicing clients across the Witney, Banbury and South Oxfordshire areas.
